During this six-week workshop, students will practice "mock" plein air painting with artist Misuk Goltz. Although participants will be painting indoors at the Pence Gallery, the class will choose references from places in California and pretend to visit the countryside, near the water, cafĂ©, or a city to paint. Reference photos will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own reference photos to paint from. Throughout the class, four different subjects will be painted, with one session being a figurative/portrait painting, and demonstrations, critiques, and individual guidance will be provided. Participants should have some previous watercolor experience.

Artist Bio:

Misuk Goltz grew up in South Korea and studied art history and psychology. She also studied Art Therapy and Mental Health Counseling at Wright State University in Ohio and began to work with mentally challenged people and their families as an outpatient psychiatric counselor at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Since she retired in 2007, she has spent much of her time painting, and watercolor painting has become her passion. She is inspired by all types of subjects but people inspire her the most. For her, each individual is unique and intriguing; capturing the attitude and expression of people on a piece of watercolor paper, in the way shes understand them, always excites her.

Misuk has studied with many nationally known artists over the last few years. She received a signature membership from the Ohio Watercolor Society in 2010 and has had her paintings accepted at the National Watercolor Society International and Members' Juried Shows. She is currently a member of the California Watercolor Association and presents watercolor workshops and classes.
