Under the guidance of artist Qinqin Liu, explore how to combine watercolor with Chinese ink and oil pastels. Participants will learn design, composition, shape, line, point, value, and color, as well as wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques. Students will produce an interactive artwork by combining watercolor expression and abstraction, sketches of natural objects, and Chinese calligraphy. The instructor will offer a class demo, followed by individual instruction and group discussion.

Artist Bio:

Qinqin Liu is an interdisciplinary artist with a PhD in Botany from UC Davis. She has created artwork with watercolor integration since 1991 and taught watercolor workshops at Yosemite Art Center and Sitka Art and Ecology Center on the Oregon coast. Her art practices primarily involve water media with watercolor, acrylic, drawing, oil pastel, Chinese ink and calligraphy. She was taught ink painting and calligraphy in China and learned watercolor from America award-wining artists Cheng-Khee Chee and Frank Webb. Integrating Chinese and Western art designs and connecting art, culture and nature contribute to the unique character of her artwork that has been exhibited in galleries and museums in America and Asia.
