Description

With artist Heather Hogan, students will learn how to transform paper collage into vibrant, permanent fabric prints and functional art. Participants will learn the collage transfer process, composition strategies, and safety procedures for heat presses. Blending traditional printmaking and collage traditions with modern maker tools, this workshop encourages play with negative space, color contrast, and surface design, transforming transient paper collages into durable, archival textiles. This workshop is perfect for beginners, and prior printmaking or textile experience is not required.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with multiple custom-collaged fabric artworks including a heat-pressed 4-inch patch, and a canvas tote bag, zippered bag and/or coasters or a circular mousepad.

About the Artist

Heather Hogan is a Sacramento artist, professor, and designer who mixes old and new media into vibrant, layered creations. She blends analog collage, digital design, and quirky upcycled finds, often inviting the community to take part in the magic. Her work plays with themes of place, tenacity, and the evolving roles of women. Lately, she’s been turning public input into bold, place-proud visuals—her art brightens magazine covers, bike trails, highways, and gallery walls across California. When she’s not creating, she’s leading art workshops and guiding students through web design and modern making at Sacramento City College. To learn more about Heather's work, visit her website here.
