Description

Line, shape, form, color, placement and scale form the basis of abstract drawing. With little or no subject matter, abstract drawing reinforces the formal skills basic to the creation and everyday practice of art making. In this class, we’ll survey elements that underpin abstract drawing and consider ways to initiate and sustain a daily drawing practice. Students will work with abstract techniques with an emphasis on self-chosen themes and materials and creating work in a series. 

Each student will make one or more accordion sketchbooks as well as individual drawings to explore and connect ideas and materials.  

We’ll use dry, wet, and wet/dry drawing materials, as well as collage. We’ll also discover the effects of different found and purchased papers upon our drawings. Some materials will be provided; some materials will be supplied by students. Optional materials available for purchase. A materials list will be sent upon registration.

About the Artist

Sara Post is a painter and mixed media artist who loves keeping sketchbooks and sharing drawing with others. She lives and maintains a studio in Davis.
